How we handle your files

Short version: we do not handle them. Here is what actually happens when you use a tool.

Processed on your device
No uploads
Nothing stored
Open-source libraries

1. The file opens in your browser

When you choose a PDF or a photo, the browser reads it from your disk into memory on your own device. No request is made to our server with the file. You can verify this with the developer tools of your browser (Network tab): you will see no upload.

2. The work happens locally

Merging, splitting, compressing, signing and the rest are done by JavaScript running in the page, using the open-source libraries pdf-lib and pdf.js. Large files take longer on slower devices, because it is your device doing the work.

3. The result is saved by you

When you press download, the browser hands you a file it generated in memory. We never see it. Closing the tab discards everything.

Works offline

After a tool page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and it keeps working. That is the simplest proof that nothing is sent anywhere.

Limits to keep in mind

Because everything runs on your device, very large documents (hundreds of pages of scans) may be slow or run out of memory on an old phone. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. We do not offer certificate-based digital signatures.

What about the ads?

Ads are served by Google AdSense and may use cookies as described in our cookie policy. They are completely separate from the tools and have no access to your documents.
